The deep red garnet in this ring tonally matches the red flowers of harakeke in peak bloom. Notably, these bushes are not scientifically a flax bush, as the English name suggests, but are a kind of lily. Also of great interest to the jeweller is the place of harakeke as an integral part of the ecosystems in Aotearoa, especially in the wetlands of her home city, Otautahi Christchurch.
